Christmas at St Stephen’s Church

Trash and Treasure – 7th May

The ASSA Trash and Treasure street sale will take place this year on Saturday 7th May, between 10.30am and 1pm. All local residents in the ASSA area are welcome to put up a stall outside their house and sell, swap or give away their unwanted goods. It is free and fun to take part so please join in, and spread the word to your friends and family locally.

Twelfth Night in Albert Square – 26th June

The Albert Square Garden Trust have arranged a open air performance of Twelfth Night, performed by the Principal Theatre Company, on Friday 26th June at 7.30pm. As in previous years, the garden will be open from 6pm for picnics – please bring a rug or chairs to sit on. Tickets are just £10, or £6 for Students and OAPs, and accompanied children under 13 are FREE. Come along, and bring family and friends for what should be a fantastic evening.

Trash or Treasure – Saturday 16th May

This Saturday, 16th May, the annual ASSA Trash or Treasure street sale takes place. Everyone living on the ASSA streets of Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, Wilkinson Street and St Stephen’s Terrace is encouraged to set up a stall outside their house and sell unwanted items. It is a great way to declutter your house, meet neighbours, and to raise money, either for yourself or charity – the choice is yours. The sale runs from 10.30am to 1pm. Please help spread the word!

Cycle Hangars – Love them? Hate them? OK but not in front of my house?

Lambeth is offering up to 2 cycle hangars for safe storage of bikes in Aldebert Terrace and one in the entrance road to Albert Square. Let us know your thoughts by signing Lambeth’s form.

Community Freshview Event – Saturday 7th March

We are having a spring Clean up on the morning of Saturday 7th March between 10.30 and 1 pm to weed, prune, clear up and  generally make the neighbourhood ready for Spring.
We plan to plant 200 daffodil bulbs in the build outs as well as clear up the communal beds by the church and near the Clapham Road.
Lambeth Community Freshview have promised some help with loan of tools, some topsoil to refresh our communal beds and a skip to take away our rubbish.
Please do join if you can – the group will be working across the local streets (Albert Square, Aldebert Terrace, St Stephen’s Terrace and Wilkinson Street) so should be easy to find. Once we are finished, all the workers are invited for a light lunch of bread, cheese and salad, a glass of wine and chat to meet neighbours and learn about what is going on locally. This will be held in a local home.

Invitation for grant applications from local charities

The Albert Square and St Stephen’s Association (ASSA), a residents’ association for the Albert Square conservation area in South Lambeth, is inviting local charities and organizations to submit bids for small grants which can be paid from the association’s funds.

Organizations considering making a bid are given the following guidance:

  • We invite bids for grants of up to a maximum of 500 pounds. The average size of grant paid in the past is around 300 pounds, and we do not anticipate any significant change in this policy.
  • Whilst ASSA do not insist that bidding organizations are active within the precise area covered by the association, we do ask that the grant will be used for the benefit of local people.
  • Bids should be made for a specific capital expenditure or project, rather than to meet the general running costs of an organization.
  • Organizations receiving a grant will be expected to send a short report once the grant has been spent.
  • ASSA will not make grants to sectarian or political organizations
  • Bids should be accompanied by a copy of the most recent set of accounts for the organization making the application.

To submit an application please write to the Chairman of ASSA, Peter Edwards (superedwards3@gmail.com) giving an brief outline of the organization making the bid, the purpose for which the grant will be used, and the amount requested. Bids should be submitted before 20th February 2015.
